Okay, scrubbing days at today's tournament at Jurong East.

Played Core Chimail today, and got a score of 1-2, 0-2, 2-0 and 0-2.

I played this deck because I believe it has potential, but it was VERY inconsistent.

Most Core Chimail monsters require the owner to reveal a card from their hand OR discard the Iron Core of Koa'ki Meiru to the graveyard to keep the monsters alive.

Comments :
Most of the monsters in this deck are level 4 or below, except for the 2 Rooklords.
This allows for easy beatdown and the ability to summon monsters consistently.

The reason for Hydro Barrier and Tornado is because, it is important to have some monsters that do not require the "revealing or discarding" maintenance cost.

And, by top-decking an Iron Core for Tornado's effect, Tornado can destroy all your opponent's previously special summoned monsters.
*Thinking of Banana's Machiners ^_^*

Urknight, released in Absolute Powerforce allows the Koa'ki Meiru archetype to swarm better, as just by revealing an Iron Core of Koa'ki Meiru, I am able to summon another level 4 or lower Koa'ki Meiru beatstick from the deck.

Most of the level 4 monsters of the Koa'ki Meiru archetype have 1900 ATK and above, Powerhand being the highest of 2100.

Crusader allows the retrieval of the Iron Core from the graveyard, to either use Urknight's effect or to discard it to maintain a monster on the field.

Boulder is the main searcher of the archetype, being able to search for an Iron Core or any level 4 or lower Koa'ki Meiru monster from the deck to hand. It also does not have the maintenance cost, and it can also be used to reveal for Guardian.

Guardian is most of the time summoned by Urknight to protect cards when attacking face down monsters such as Ryko, as Guardian can be tributed to negate the effect.

Shrink is necessary to clear big Synchro monsters, as most of the monsters in the deck are level 4 and have low ATK compared to Synchro monsters, hence Shrink is used to remove those pesky white cards away.

Reckless Greed is also a good card to have in the deck, as you can draw additional cards, and then discard Iron Core to maintain a monster instead of revealing.
Then, by skipping the Draw Phase of your turn you can return Iron Core from your Graveyard to your hand, and it nicely stacks with Reckless Greed's effect, meaning you can return Iron Core from your Graveyard to hand and you can start drawing again on the 3rd turn after activating Reckless Greed.

Radiance of the Steel Core is the primary Magic/Trap negation of this deck, just by revealing an Iron Core from your hand.

Royal Oppression is also included in this deck, as apart from Urknight special summoning, there are no other special summons in this deck, and Royal Oppression can be used against GB, LL, Machiners and BF.

Why no Drago or Doom ?

Drago : Light and Dark monsters cannot be special summoned.

There is so far only one Dragon monster in this archetype, and it is hard to maintain Drago by revealing another Dragon monster from your hand, as the only Koa'ki Meiru Dragon is Drago, and it is not likely to have 2 Dragos in your hand most of the time.

Doom : Light and Dark monsters have no effect.

Gayness, but with an ATK of only 1700, even plain Jain can kill him without any effects.
Nuff said.

The Koa'ki Meiru Lab really needs to breed more Dragons and Fiends and support cards for this archetype !!

Hey guys, it's Starsky here.
This is my 1st post, and I'm going to rant about the team tournament that was held at Khatib just few hours back.
I was teamed up with Melvin and Jared today and i was the anchor in this line-up which, i got to admit, it's quite an important role that i have to play.
So anyway, i was playing Twilight deck today after a night of re modifications and the thoughts of my traumatizing frustrations over my 2 week "1 win 3 lose streak". And i told myself to chill and play well no matter what the scenario is... And i did.
I think my performance was good and i was winning in the front line.. but, eventually, we got wiped out in the Swiss rounds, which is what i have kind of expected or predicted.. but overall, we all had fun today! And i think Mythos has done well today, although Team PorkchopMEGAULTRACHICKENDOUCHEBAG is having a 0-6 score! But, we had a good time laughing it off during dinner at McDonald's! SOOOO... yea! That's all I'm writing for now. Take care, readers, whoever you guys are.

Hi guys. Boy in black here.
Today was the Khatib's team tourney.
My team consisted of J.I., BiXuan and me.
I ran Oppression BF along with BiXuan and J.I. ran Tragoedia LightLords.
Quite happy with my performance today, won 2-1.
However, our team was out in the end.
I feel that all the 3 teams that Team Mythos sent have played really well and have done their best.
Mistakes done, lessons learned.

Solidarity!

Hellos people,

With every pack comes a card with so much potential but yet so underused. Solidarity gives you the punch you need for every fun type based deck that you ever wanted to play in your entire life (I'm talking about actual type Archetypes). If you felt that your Warrior deck was not strong enough even with The A-Forces? Solidarity is your alternative choice (This actually reminds me of Twin Breaker. It must hurt alot if Solidarity is on the field and he controls a defense position monster) . Insect deck? Not a problem, Solidarity is there. What about Beasts? Solidarity (Beast Soul Swap + Solidarity = EXTREME PAIN!). Given the latest fad with Machines nowadays, Solidarity will be, and will remain a good card in a machine/Six Samurai deck.

The card also makes any underplayed deck usable and it gives normally weak monsters with great effects the ability protect themselves (e.g. Ever wanted to protect your Snipe Hunter? With a low 1.5k attack, it's vulnerable to destruction. With Solidarity, it hits a whopping 2.3k!). The power of this card also provides the backbone to many OTK decks.

Tourney Report for 5/12

Today , 5 members of Team Mythos joined the local tournament hosted at Jurong East.

3 managed to make it into Top 4, and clinching 2nd , 3rd and 4th.

Congrats to Melvin , Jin Hao and Wee Min

On the other hand , Neuxcharge got into Top 2 at another local tournament at Khatib!

Congrats to him too!

Hope to see more results during the next few tournaments.

As you can see, this deck revolves around the putting of counters. The deck also utilizes Arcane Barrier, a card some people may consider slow, but due to the mass amount of counters that we would be generating (with Crusader/Apprentice/Spell Power Grasp), it would be relatively easy to use it. Night's End Sorceror and Kycoo are used to counter current meta decks with out of play tactics, and in case things get bad and get held off to a standstill, the deck could with through effect damage, as seen through Tempest Magician. Traps are somewhat slow, so I generally tried to avoid them, other then some mandatory traps I felt that had to see some show.

It's odd how people use this card without noticing what cards it can be used against.

Example 1:

Yes, Oppression can be used against Macro Cosmos, even if your opponent does not special summon anything. This is because Oppression states that it can negate effect of a card that "states a special summon", and not the intention to special summon (if you get what I mean). Also on the list of Oppressionable cards is:

Example 2:

One mistaken concept people have is that since Crystal Abundance sends all cards to the graveyard first, I will not be able to negate! That's plain silly. Royal Oppression bypasses Crystal Abundance since it states a special summon, and negates it. And what's more, since putting 4 Crystals into the grave is a cost, you're obviously gaining so much advantage! All for the cost of 800 life points!

Other Examples:

So remember guys. As long as the card effect states a special summon, you can negate it, even if a special summon is not confirmed. Until next time!

Team Mythos' first event!

Team Mythos (The team which manages this site) had their first ever team event, potluck! It was a rainy day as the group of us gathered and travelled via bus to our location. All of us got drenched as we ran to the multi-purpose hall that we have booked for the day. Everyone brought their own food (some of the lazier people just got tidbits), and we all had a great time.

We even had a mini tournament, to determine the owner of 10 cards which each and everyone of us forked out. All of us did rather well. A few of us regained lost confidence. A few of us gained more experience and learnt more about how to play the game well. Even Yugituber Neuxcharge agreed it was a great day!

And apparently, it was a great day to play table tennis. These two boys could not stop playing!

Overall, what I would emphasize is that Yu-Gi-Oh! shouldn't be a game where you joust with your friends for the title of the best. Sure, the occasional tournament win can be a nice boost, but let's not forget the friends that'll accompany us each and every step of our ascent to the top! (I know I'm starting to sound like Anzu here).

Upon first glance, this deck may seem extremely slow and definitely not worth for play. However, because Heart of the Underdog gives you immense draw power, the deck abuses it by playing many quick play spells cards and trap cards, allowing you to draw more (notably so that you can use it during the draw phase). The draw power also fits the Exodia theme because Exodia parts are normal monsters, and since that they are all level 1, perfect targets for "The Law Of The Normal".

Win Conditions:

1. OTK via Law of Normal + Triangle Power

Triangle Power gives your little monsters a 2000 attack bonus! Then by clearing both players fields and hands (other than the little monsters), 5 monsters can now proceed to OTK the opponent with a grand total of 10k attack! To be safe, because Triangle Power increased the BASE attack and defense of monsters on the field, you can use it together with Shield and Sword, giving Charcoal Inpachi a whopping 4000 attack!

2. Exodia!

Need I explain? With the draw power given by Heart of the Underdog and etc, it's relatively simple to reach this win condition!

Skill Level Needed: 4/10

Fun!: 7/10

Power: 4/10

Speed: 9/10

Tournament Playable? : No

Overall, I think that this deck's power could be greatly increased by including Appropriate Exodia elements in it. Only with such speed, and ability, can the Weeny Rush OTK be really achieved.

Okay, going to do a card review on this underused Fiend Roar Deity card.

Fiend Roar Deities are slowly climbing up the ladder, and I feel they will become one of the top meta decks, although they can't be used in official tournaments cause they are DT exclusives.

Art : 4/10 (Lets face it, one of the worst fiends/demons drawn)
Stats : 6/10 (Really average stats, losing out to commonly used cards such as Dark Grepher)
Effect : 8/10 (Really good, will elaborate later)

Okay, I think the art stinks, there are better drawn Fiend Roar Deity cards out there.

Effect. : When this card battles, activate this effect once during the Damage Calculation by sending 1 card in your hand to the Graveyard. This card gains 600 ATK during Damage Calculation only.

By discarding a card from your hand, ANY card, you can make this beast's attack reach 2200.
2200 attack for a 4-star monster is insanely high, for the cost of 1 hand card.

By using its effect, not only can you kill a monster that has 2100 attack and below, you can set up your graveyard for OTKs, such as discarding Vayu/Sirrocco, or Necro Guardna to protect yourself, getting the requirements for Chaos Sorcerer / Dark Armed Dragon and such.

Its also a Light Attribute, being a feasible target for Honest after discarding a card to increase its attack to 2200.

As such, this card is actually a viable option for Twilight Beats.

It can also fit in Fiend Roar Deity decks(obviously, if not it wouldn't be named Fiend Roar Deity), as Fiend Roar Deity decks rely on the manipulation of both player hand cards in order for certain effects to be activated, such as Unicor, released in DT07.

It can also use its effect to discard cards like Fiend Roar Deity Beast Cerberal to summon him instantly or Fiend Roar Deity Beast Kashi to destroy something on the field.

It is a versatile card IMHO, and I hope I can catch a glimpse of this card in decks.

Card Review: XX-Sabre Hyunlay

Hi everyone! Fireowners here, and this is the first post I am writing here in SGDuelist. This post is about one of the cards with a better effect in Absolute Powerforce. The card I am going to be talking about is XX-Sabre Hyunlay.

Rate:
Card Art - 7/10 (Basically looks like a female warrior)
Card Effect - 8/10 (Immediate +3 upon its summoning, basically another heavy storm)
Card Stats - 4/10 (Its attack and defence is not very high, and at a mere 2300/1300, most lvl 6 monsters will be able to eliminate it easily)
Overall - 6/10

This card has its pros and cons. The good thing about this card is that you basically get a heavy storm in a monster form. However, summoning it is pretty difficult as it needs a X-Saber non-tuner as one of its summoning conditions. Up till now, I have only thought of one reliable way of summoning it in a X-Saber dedicated theme deck, and that is to tune a lvl 2 X-Saber Paisul to a lvl 4 XX-Saber Galsem.....

Anyway, I will be doing more reviews on upcoming products and cards, so stay tuned!!!

Card Review: Ordeal of a Traveller

Sup everyone,Ritsu-sama here.This is my 1st shot at doing a card review,so here goes something.

Now,this is a very underused card,and most of you might be thinking "Wtf?This is a useless card so why are you featuring it?" Well,first things first this card is anything but useless.Its very much like Needle Ceiling,except for the fact that it stays on the field and screws the 4 monster requirement.It does not require a cost, except maybe showing a small part of your hand (which barely is a cost to begin with!).

An example would be if you have 3 cards in your hand.1 Monster,1 Spell and 1 Trap.Your opponent attacks you and has to guess a random card in your hand.That means he only has a 1/3 chance of getting it right, if not its bye bye birdy. Also,this card is easily a combo breaker and can stop an OTK if your opponent guesses even 1 card wrongly. Also, it stops popular cards like "Lord British", and it enables you to retain field presence. Just with one card alone! Getting this card on the first turn is almost a godsend!

Card Review : Absolute Powerforce

Hey everyone! Sazabi here , and here's a card review to kick off a good start. As all of you know , Absolute Powerforce was released not long ago , and there are a lot of hidden gems in this set. Today , i will be talking about this guy below.

Yes! It's Battle Fader!

Battle Fader (ABPF-JP006)
When an opponent's monster declares a direct attack, you can Special Summon this card from your hand and end the Battle Phase. If you Special Summon this card with this effect, this card is removed from play when it is removed from the field.

The first thing i see from this guys effect is......Instant Threatening Roar?

Yes , not only is it an instant Threatening Roar , stopping that Judgment Dragon from killing you , but it also provides monster presence , in the form of a Level 1 monster. Then , during your turn , you could easily :

1) Tribute it for another monster
2) Use it for a Synchro Summon

Now your opponent would have to be extremely careful when they direct attack you, since they will be dealing with Gorz and this guy.

Stats : 0/10 (Lets be realistic)
Effect : 8/10
Artwork : 6/10 (Demon Clock?)

Let me tell you guys a story.

When I was a kid, I wasn't a really avid talker. I would shun people around me so that I could keep more to myself. As a result, I used to be alone, be it during recess or after school. I did it all alone. I don't know about you guys, but this "children's card game" was the one that shaped me into the social dude that I am today. It was because of this game, that allowed me to share a common topic with the other guys at school, and it was because of this game that I met new friends in all places all over Singapore. So yes, this card game means more to me than winning tournaments. Maybe Anzu's rampant talks about friendship is right. People in Singapore have the wrong concept. Don't they know that enjoying the game is much better than winning it?

Okay, 2 days past the Asia Qualifiers.

Many things happened, just to name a few notable ones:

-Pairing down of competitors (1-0 vs. 0-1)
-A player with a score of 1-0 was given a bye
-Epic fail ruling
-Rounds had to be done in 2 waves
-Top 16 reduced to top 8 due to "not enough time"

Okay. Just my opinion on the day itself.
I believe pairing down using computer pairing systems(Mantis) would be impossible, unless there are odd numbers of competitors, where the maximum number of pairing downs would be 1.
So, there were multiple pairing downs during that day, and I really wonder what the fuck MOV was doing.

Second. 1-0 player got a bye during second round.
WOW. Awesome. Cool shit.
So, tell me how possible it is for someone with no losses to get a bye?
Unless you're saying EVERYBODY won, and the bye had to be given randomly.
But there were people with 0-1 scores, so tell me why didn't any of them get that bye instead?
Moreover, the guy who got the bye was member of MOV. Hmm?
Rigged.

Third.
Chaining Book of Moon on Judgment Dragon after activating JD's effect will cause JD to die as well.
I wonder who taught the judges this.
And there's the one with the Charge of the Light Brigade one, but I'm too lazy to talk about that.

Fourth.
Are the organizers so poor that they couldn't afford a larger place for the tourney to be held?
Maybe the funds were really not enough, or maybe they used the funds for something else?

5th.
Thanks to the small location of the tourney, "not enough time" becomes a wonderful and perfect excuse.
If you guys just want to go home, then don't be a judge/organizer in the first place.
Being a judge/organizer, I believe you must be mentally prepared to withstand long hours of dueling and such.
I pity those 2 people who had 4 wins and had to go home.

In conclusion, MOV = epic fail.
A bunch of little kids wearing their shirt running around spewing vulgarities, sigh.
Why must such a big tourney be organized by 13-16 teenagers who don't know shit about rulings?

People feel like Team MOV has done a bad job hosting the Asia Tournament.Post your views on the Asia Tournament in the tagboard.Also,we are writing a petition to overthrow team MOV from hosting tournaments again.Please do support us if you are discontented with the tournament this time round.The top 8 was originally supposed to be the top 16,however due to "time constraints",it was changed to the top 8 and it changed to 4 Swiss rounds instead of 5.Opinions have been voiced that it was MOV's fault for starting the tournament late.Another point is that MOV made up their own rulings,and unbanned cards such as Thunder King Rai-Oh,Gorz and Gold Sarcophagus(even though they previously have disallowed such promos to be used). However,the tournaments in Japan has allowed the use of these cards.The pairings for the tournament were also screwed up according to some duelists, please do help us with the petition if you are dissatisfied with team MOV.

Report on Asia Qualifiers Pt.1

Not really in the mood to blog now. Very disappointed.

I'll just summarize it in some points.

1) Went to stay over at Jinny's place with Davin to playtest/crap
2) Woke up at 5am and went to Mac to eat breakfast. Met DY there
3) Meet the others at Clementi MRT and went to SMU
4) Also met Amos and Aaron at SMU and almost all Jurong players were there.
5) Games started. Trades were made.
6) Scrubbed with a score of 2-2
7) Saw a lot of scams.
8) Went home

Zzzz...In the end ,i got 57th out of 150+ people. Feel abit disappointed in myself. Not in the mood to blog anymore. I will stop here and continue tmr

Card of the Day: Needle Ceiling

Welcome back to SGDuelists! Today, I would like to introduce to you people a very underused card, despite it's immense power.

On the first look, it may not seem impressive. Upon closer inspection, and playtesting however, it's very much akin to a chainable Torrential Tribute. It also protects any face down monsters you have set, never leaving you defenseless (if you knew that you should set a monster before using it). If you ever found Torrential Tribute a tricky card to use (mainly because you'd never know when your opponent is out of monsters to summon in the current metagame), this card can be a cheap, and stronger alternative, with only one easy-to-fulfill condition, and that is to have 4 monsters on the field at the same time (inclusive of your opponent's). Once you're certain your opponent is done, simply flush them all into the grave! It's that simple.

We here at SGDuelists have always been planning to make dueling a better environment for each and everyone. Even though we have not recieved word from the owner of Thousand Taste Trading about the location or the possible opening dates of the alleged new shop (which messed up alot of our plans, including interschool and Duel City, in case you were wondering what happened to the two tournaments), we are still planning to make duelists, new and old, find the game better.

Since our plans have been interrupted, we regret to inform you people that both of the above tournaments will be postponed until further notice (AKA when I recieve news of the new shop opening, because I intend to use it as a "base for operations"). However, we still have many things that are going on during this period.

Firstly, SGDuelists intend to make high quality videos (combo-ed with a bit of slapstick humor, like a comedy) to teach new players how to play the game. We intend to go into the world of High Definition, and also video editing, as I would be experiencing how to use Adobe Aftereffects first hand. Due to the lack of people who are willing to commit themselves onto the screen, SGDuelists is currently recruiting avid players who have some performance experience OR willing to commit into making videos.

If you are interested, or you have a camera (thus applying to be the camera crew), please contact me at 83696283, I will brief you on your roles and we will set a date to film.

Secondly, SGDuelists will also be releasing it's annual schedule out on the official website. It will soon be undergoing some revamps to it's site layout, with more links and such so players will find the site a more interactive and fun.

Okay, before anyone gets any weird ideas, I would like to certify that SGDuelists is NOT dead. I am currently working, and I cannot keep a close eye on how tournaments and etc are held. Knowing a Card's Effect allows you to see its potential

Example: Trap Dustshoot

People were put off by the 4 or more cards in hand requirement.

But this card plays out so well that the benefits outweight the cons.

This card was seen alot in Worlds Qualifier 2009.

Reason being that it can help a player plan a strategy and know what to expect now that he can see the hand of the opponent.

Rules for KOF

- The game would be played in the KOF ( King of Fighter ) style.

- Each team will select a representative to face off against a representative from the opponent’s team.

- The winner would continue to stay as the representative for the team until he or she is defeated. The goal of the team is to knock-out all of the representatives of the opponent’s team.

- Life Points would be retained after each duel, but the field will be cleared.

- During each interval (after every duel), ALL team members of both sides may side deck.

Eg.:

Player Liu Hao (Team A) beats Weemin (Team B) , retaining an LP of 3000. He or she would have to play with the same LP for the second round as Team B sends out another representative. Although , cards on Player A's field would be cleared and reshuffled back into his or her deck, similar to a fresh duel , the player will be now with a significant LP disadvantage.

- Each round would be 1 match.

- The winning team is determined when the opposing team has no more representatives to be sent out to duel.

- Card effects and Rulings would still be as per normal for individual duels.

Hints and Tips:

Good for you. You read SGDuelists. As a reader, you shall have some hints and tips given by yours truly! So since you're a regular at tournaments, you do realize that this tournament RETAINS your lifepoints after every duel. Then you might want some life point gain, because 3 rounds of 8000 life points isn't easy! Throw in a couple of Rainbow Lifes, or even an Airhummingbird! Remember that you have to protect your lifepoints as much as protecting your field, because you only have one chance against the opponent's team to prove your worth.

Tag Team Tournament Report (Sazabi)

Just came back from the Tag Team Championships held at T3 , Jurong East. On a whole , it was quite a success , with quite a few teams entering this event. If i'm not wrong , there were 8 teams. So, I was told to make a report on the scene and my scores , etc. There were some minor mistakes made during the matchs i observed (eg. sleeves , judgement dragon). But , all of this is still part of our learning journey. I see that everyone was having quite a good time. My team *Including others , not only DY* learned quite some stuff through this (Btw , if they don't , their dead. Its $10! They're bound to learn SOMETHING. Ok fine , maybe Melvin didn't....)

I saw a lot of players whom are potential attenders for the Rookie Workshop.

My team was DYBX , consisting of me (Bixuan) and DY ( Deng Yang). He ran Barbaros Angel Drain while i ran Light Undead. The style was Double Elimination.

1st Match : DYBX VS ??

Duel 1 : Remembered playing Raiou as a starter , then he used Rescue Cat to summon Sea Koala and Airbellum , destroyed my Raiou and became Natural Beast. It went downhill for abit until i Skill Drain'ed. Honestly , we could have won. DY had 2 Honests in his hand , and it was enough to win. But.........You guessed it, we lost, cause DY didn't think about that.

Duel 2 : Can't remember much , but it ended quite fast.

Comment : First lost of the day!! But , it was a really nice match

2nd Match : DYBX VS Random Number

Duel 1 : I remembered having Paladin , Raiou and Cyber on the field and they attacked , oppo Mirror Force and i Solemn. They lost then

Duel 2 : Really can't remember, but we won

Comment : Diao!! One of the teammate happened to be my primary school friend. It was really nice seeing him again.

3rd Match : DYBX VS Lightlord

Duel 1 : I remember they Complusory our only monster and we lost

Duel 2 : Didn't side , DY sided some CED. But , we STILL lost.

Comment : Yup , we were out.

I know this is a short report , but i was busy getting cards for my Absolute Zero deck and GB deck. Besides , it was a long day and i am forgetful.

Anyways , the video of the final match would be up soon , along with an interview of some of the duelists there (I HOPE ITS HAMTARO!!).

I have the updated version of the workshop in my hands. Looks like it's gonna be really great for both rookies, and expert players alike, so I hope attendance rate would be high.

Anyways, the first prize for the tag team tournament is confirmed, if there would be at least 10 teams. The first prize would be a booster box of your choice (if you're the winner). Second prize is still under discussion, but I am thinking of giving away an Duel Academia duel disk. However, seeing that it can't be shared, we are still discussing about the matter.

Talking about which, the other day, I met up Bryan from M.O.V., and we talked about the future of SGDuelists and we probed about how we can improve the game community for you folks. The first round of duelist registration garnered some attention, with people going skeptical about such a thing happening. Of course it is happening, so register now, before you are left out!

Meanwhile, the tournament at Thousand Taste Trading would be postponed to the 16th, due to the large amount of players having their exams during the time it will be held.
